Our Favorite Art Activities

 

  Paint with outdoor items. Examples: you can use leaves, pine needles, flowers, rocks etc to paint with.

Caro Syrup painting. Take caro syrup and put on a plate, add food coloring to the syrup and stir. Let children paint onto paper with fingers or paintbrushes.

 

Food Stamping, cut fruits and veggies in half, dip in paint and stamp away. apples and citrus fruit have great texture. Submitted by Julie S.

 Glue Drop: Mix glue with tempera paint or food coloring. Drip on waxed paper
 with tongue depressors. Let dry; then peel glue drops off of waxed paper.
 Glue drops on paper and color and paint around them.
 
 Crayons with a salt water wash: Draw with crayons on dark construction paper. 
Then paint the entire picture with a mixture of lots of salt and water.
 When the water dries,the picture will sparkle.
 
 Chalk and Sand Paper: Draw a picture on fine sand paper with colored chalk.. 
Spray finished picture with hair spray to seal.
 
 Frozen Paint: Freeze liquid tempera paint in ice cube tray.  add a popsicle 
stick to the paint while freezing.  Wait overnight and paint with them.  
The consistency will change as the children paint.
